1. Provide percentages on where our electricity is generated from that is used on the Island. Example interconnector from national grid, Peel plant etc. so I can see what makes up our current electricity supply. 2. Please provide the year total expenditure figure for generation/supply of electricity and how much income was received by customers over the same year. 3. In the Electricity Act it states that before Departments give direction to targets re Climate Change Act 2021, a consultation must be had to establish impact of potential increases in renewable energy supplies on the stability of the Islands electricity supply and cost of providing an increased amount of energy. P1 2 (9A). Please provide this cost.

We write further to your request, which was clarified on 1 August and now reads:

"1. Provide percentages on where our electricity is generated from that is used on the Island. Example interconnector from national grid, Peel plant etc. so I can see what makes up our current electricity supply.

Electricity generation for 2022-23 was as follows:

  1. Please provide the year total expenditure figure for generation/supply of electricity and how much income was received by customers over the same year.

Under section 20 of the Freedom of Information Act, we are not required to provide information in response to a request if it is already reasonably accessible to you, whether free of charge or on payment of a fee.

This information is publicly available in our financial statements for 2022-23 – see https://manxutilities.im/media/2830/mu_annual-report_r9.pdf#page=75. However, to assist we can advise that the fuel/energy costs were £63.485m and the income received by customers is included in the ‘Electricity Sales for Island Demand - Domestic and Non-Domestic’ figures.

  1. In the Electricity Act it states that before Departments give direction to targets re Climate Change Act 2021, a consultation must be had to establish impact of potential increases in renewable energy supplies on the stability of the Islands electricity supply and cost of providing an increased amount of energy. Page 6, 8A of the Act. Please provide this cost."

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance Manx Utilities does not hold or cannot, after taking reasonable steps to do so, find some of

the information that you have requested. However; to assist, please note that Electricity Act states:

The Department, in this case is the Department of Infrastructure as Manx Utilities’ sponsoring department; the Act does not apply to multiple departments. Manx Utilities has not been given a direction by the Department regarding electricity supply targets and therefore there are no costs associated with this. Manx Utilities does not have any targets which are linked to the Climate Change Act, 2021 in respect to renewable energy, our target is 100% decarbonised electricity by 2030.
