Summary

The requester asked for the total number of active electricity accounts and a breakdown between domestic and business users. The Manx Utilities Authority provided figures for active meters and properties but clarified that these do not directly correlate to account numbers due to multiple meters per account or properties.

Key Facts

  • The response provides data on electricity meters and properties rather than direct account counts.
  • There are 43,867 domestic meters across 43,522 properties.
  • There are 6,319 commercial and high-use meters across 5,830 properties.
  • Discrepancies between meters and accounts arise from debt repayment scenarios, multiple meters per account, and property design requirements.
  • The request was received on 26 May 2022 and closed on 6 June 2022.

Dear ###

We write further to your request which was received on 26 May 2022 and which states:

"Could you please advise the total number of current active accounts for users of electricity and if possible a further breakdown between domestic and business accounts."

Our response to your request is as follows: No. of Meters No. of Properties Domestic tariff 43,867 43,522 Commercial and high use tariffs 6,319 5,830 Please note that the figures reflect the number of electricity meters in properties that have a current active supply. They do not offer a direct correlation to active electricity accounts due to: • some active accounts that currently do not have an active electricity supply (for example: debt repayment), • individual account holders may hold multiple meters on a single account, these could be both domestic and/or commercial, and • property requirements or design may necessitate multiple meters in one property.
