We write further to your request which was received on 22 August 2019 and which states:

You advised: I seek information about the RGS school farm. Please provide information on budgets, resourcing and the benefit to students. * Budget: annual budget (as an absolute number and as a percentage of RGS budget), source of funding (e.g. from main budget or top-up from DESC, DEFA, MNFU etc.).

  • Resourcing: staffing requirements (split by teaching and farm management), use of RGS classrooms and other buildings.
  • Benefit: Lessons provided (split by school year), exams results at KS3 and KS4 Our response to your simplified request is as follows: Budget Based on the financial year 2018/19 Rural Science had a budget of £1150, which £621.56 was attributable to the Animal Unit. This equates to 0.00013% of the whole school budget. The source of the funding is entirely from the school budget and the aim is that the Animal Unit is self-funding. Resourcing Rural Science is taught by 2 full time teachers, one of whom has responsibility for the running of the school farm. Rural Science is taught in school classrooms and on the school farm. Benefit Rural Science is taught in 1 lesson per week in key stage 3 (KS3) and 3 lessons per week in key stage 4 (KS4).
