Dear ###

We write further to your request which was received on 27 November 2018 and which states:

"Can you advise of the total expenditure on coal and peat , per annum since 2011, broken down by amount in kilograms and by the material's specific usage. Regards"

Our response to your request is as follows: The Department does not record the quantity of coal bought each year in a way that allows us to show this information by volume, only by cost. We are therefore happy to supply the following information by financial year. The coal is used for operating the Isle of Man steam railway. 2011/12 £93,026.19 2012/13 £58,616.96 2013/14 £80,789.05 2014/15 £69,898.71 2015/16 £61,241.35 2016/17 £57,896.24 2017/18 £54,152.06 2018/19 £59,989.80 In addition, while the Ports Division does not use coal or peat specifically, the Blacksmiths Section, who carry out work in respect of the harbours infrastructure, use coke (a coal derivative) to heat the forge. Because they do not use a large quantity, the only two quantities purchased since 2011 were 2015 £576.00 25kg 2016 £640.86 1000kg Please quote the reference number 664065 in any future communications.
