Dear ###

We write further to your request which was received on 23 July 2018, which states:

"I need to know how many on the island, children, adults suffer from Crohns and Colitis (UC) condition. I would like to start an awareness campaign to help sufferers from this condition. 'Not every Disability is Visible'"

Our response to your request is as follows: The Department does not hold Island wide information, as this would include GP Practices. The information pertains only to Nobles Hospital Information. This table details the answer to your response, up to 5th August 2018: Condition Count Episodes of care with Crohns as a diagnosis code (adults) 934 Patients (adults) with a diagnosis of Crohns disease 274 Episodes of care with Crohns as a diagnosis code (under 18) 30 Episodes of care with Colitis as a diagnosis code (adults) 1026 Patients (adults) with a diagnosis of Colitis 460

Section 25 (b) (i) and (ii) While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance we are unable to provide some of the information you have requested because it is absolutely exempt under section 25 of the Act (absolutely exempt personal information). The reasons why that exemption applies are that: • The Department of Health and Social Care is satisfied that the information amounts to personal data of which you are not the data subject; and • The Department of Health and Social Care is satisfied that disclosure of the information would contravene one of the data protection principles as set out at Article 5 of the General Data Protection Regulation as it applies in the Isle of Man pursuant to the Data Protection (Application of GDPR) Order 2018, namely that the Department of Health and Social Care can only disclose the information where it would be fair, lawful and meet one of the conditions for lawful processing in Article 6, and in this case, none of those conditions have been met. The figures for patients who are under 18 are extremely low, which could lead to individuals being easily identified.
