We write further to your request, received 2 February 2026, which states:

"How much money has the DoI spent on purchasing cats eyes over the past few years… ? Let's say 10 years

They are appearing everywhere and are being added to roads that are in desperate need of resurfacing."

Our response to your request is as follows: I have detailed below the information that is being released to you.

The Department has invested in a targeted road stud (cats eye) installation programme over the last 2 years. The exact cost of purchasing the road studs cannot be confirmed, as the appointed contractor provides an all-in rate for supply and installation.

The Department can confirm that the total expenditure for the cat’s eye installation programme for the past two years is as follows:

2024/25 - £83,114

2025/26 - £62,546
