Dear ###

We write further to your request, received 14 November 2025, which states:

In public interest was the Boy Shayne purchased with a government grant.

If it was how much did the tax payer or government contribute for the purchase and how much did the owner or owners contribute for the purchase.

When was the Boy Shayne purchased.

Our response to your request is as follows:

Q1: In public interest was the Boy Shayne purchased with a government grant.

The Department provided a grant towards the purchase of the vessel under the Fishing Vessels (Financial Assistance) Scheme 2003 (as amended).

Q2a If it was how much did the tax payer or government contribute for the purchase.

The grant was equivalent to 40% of the purchase price of the vessel, in line with the terms of the Fishing Vessels (Financial Assistance) Scheme 2003 (as amended). This scheme is no longer in operation.

Q2b How much did the owner or owners contribute for the purchase

Section 25(b)(i)&(ii) – personal information While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance we are unable to provide some of the information you have requested because it is absolutely exempt under section 25(2)(b)(i)&(ii) of the Act (absolutely exempt personal information). The reasons why that exemption applies are that:

• The Department of Environment Food and Agriculture is satisfied that the information amounts to personal data of which you are not the data subject; and

• The Department of Environment Food and Agriculture is satisfied that disclosure of the information would contravene one of the data protection principles as set out at Article 5 of the General Data Protection Regulation as it applies in the Isle of Man pursuant to the Data Protection (Application of GDPR) Order 2018, namely that the Department of Environment Food and Agriculture can only disclose the information where it would be fair, lawful and meet one of the conditions for lawful processing in Article 6 and in this case, none of those conditions have been met.

Q3 When was the Boy Shayne purchased.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the public authority does not hold or cannot, after taking reasonable steps to do so, find the information that you have requested. This is because the Department has no record of when the Boy Shayne was purchased.

To offer advice and assistance, the grant was made to the applicant in September 2011.
