Dear ###

We write further to your request which was received on 29 May 2018 and which states:

"What is the current policy on cutting or clamping the umbilical cord? i.e. immediately on birth ? or how long before clamping after the birth?"

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the public authority does not hold or cannot, after taking reasonable steps to do so, find the information that you have requested.

The Department does not hold a Policy in relation to umbilical cord clamping. The Department is aware of the evidence base that promotes allowing the cord to pulse for around a minute, however, this is not part of our routinely collected maternity data set so this information isn't audited or collated in any way that allows us to provide the answer to this question.

Please quote the reference number 483536 in any future communications.
