Response:

Recent publicised policing on the Coast Road has been implemented due to concerns raised by partner agencies, complaints of speeding and other influencing factors. The principles of the Constabulary on all of the roads of the Isle of Man is to keep them as safe as possible during the course of TT Festival.

The TT is a busy period and the Island is very busy with increased levels of vehicles, predominantly motor cycles on our roads. The Constabulary aim to keep each and every person safe, we do this through a combination of prevention, enforcement, intelligence led policing and with our messages around Excess Speed, Drink driving, awareness of other road users of whatever category. Our enforcement remains a priority and we will continue to rigorously enforce and prevent offences and collisions where possible.

The source of this data was collisions recorded by the Police on open roads during TT periods for previous three years. TT fortnight comprises period between start of Saturday before Practice week to end of Sunday after Senior Race Day (16 days).

Collisions were mapped, and included in analysis if they occurred within 10m of road centreline between Douglas and Ramsey on A2 coast road (start and end points being where A2 meets the TT course).

Involvement of motorcycles included collisions noted motorcycles either being recorded as a cause of collision, being collided with by another vehicle, or colliding with another vehicle.

Prosecutions counted for all driving offences identified as occurring on A2 Coast Road in the TT periods.
