Dear ###,
We write further to your request, received 25 February 2025, which states:
"Please provide data as to how many families are expected to benefit from the £10,000 increase in the salary threshold to receive child benefit?
Regards"
Our response to your request is as follows:
It is estimated that around 2,000 families will benefit from the £10,000 increase to each of the income thresholds used for the child benefit income test.
This includes families who will, subject to an appropriate claim being made, become newly entitled to child benefit as a result of the upper income threshold being increased from £80,000 to £90,000.
The increased thresholds will come into effect from the week commencing 7 April 2025.
It should be noted that the income test has regard to most types of income; not just wages or salary.
