We write further to your request, received 3 February 2025, which states:

"Please provide total annual costs of Active Travel from 2016 to date. Including details including but not limited to:

  • Feasibility studies and consultant fees

  • Departmental Staffing / salary and freelance contractor costs

  • Capital project & infrastructure costs

  • Marketing and promotion costs

  • Ancillary Costs

Please also provide annual details from 2016 to date of:

  • KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) of the success of the Active Travel Strategy

  • Which KPIs have been met or exceeded annually.

  • What annual return on investment has been measured for the Active Travel
    Strategy."

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, under section 20 of the Act, we are not required to provide information in response to a request if it is already reasonably accessible to you, whether free of charge or on payment of a fee.

In relation to the total annual costs of Active Travel, some of the information you have requested is detailed on pages 167-168 of the Environment and Infrastructure Policy Review Committee report on the Active Travel Strategy which is accessible via this link:

The report contains the costs from July 2018 (beginning of the Active Travel Strategy) to October 2022. I have included the total spends against Active Travel below for each of the financial years within the scope of your request below:

The only figure not included in the report and the above table were the Active Travel Liaison Officers costs which were £122,534. This was not recharged to the Capital Project and their costs were met by the Departments payroll budget
