Dear

We write further to your request, received 9 December 2024, which states:

"Please could you confirm the level of DBS checks conducted for staff of all levels and any exceptions that have occurred over the past 3 years? Please also advise what action you have undertaken in relation to these exceptions? I am particularly interested in the results for those staff who have daily access to minors"

Our response to your request is as follows: I have detailed below the information that is being released to you.

All of our DBS checks follow the eligibility guidance in accordance with the rehabilitation of offenders act and the Exemptions Order 1975. By law we have to ensure we are asking for the right level of check for each new staff member.

In September 2022 we implemented our online DBS portal with this brought various changes to how OHR processes DBS police checks. With effect from September 2022, OHR was no longer responsible for processing DBS renewals for Departments, Boards and Offices which saw a decrease in the number of checks being processed. This responsibility was moved back to the Departments, Boards and Offices to process themselves, leaving OHR to process only new starter’s DBS checks.

Any role that has any supervised / unsupervised access with children / vulnerable adults will be checks at a standard level at very least (can go up to enhanced barring) I hope this helps!

The below table show the number of checks completed for Manx Care and a breakdown of the levels.

Number of checks completed Basic Standard Enhanced 01 April 2021 – 31 March 2022 564 10 51 503 01 April 2022 – 31 March 2023 743 – For recruitment purposes only from September 2022 onwards 62 60 621

01 April 2023 – 31 March 2024 330 – For recruitment purposes only 31 41 258 01 April 2024 – 09 December 2024 200 – For recruitment purposes only 30 29 141

The list of roles below includes all the Standard and Enhanced checks that were processed. Basic checks don’t require a role to be stated to be processed so we do not have this data in our DBS portal.
