Summary
The requester asked for a breakdown of all vehicles registered on the Isle of Man during 2017 by specific categories, excluding retention registrations. The Department of Infrastructure stated it did not hold the total registered vehicle data in the requested format but provided monthly statistics for new vehicle registrations and imported vehicles for the 2017-2018 period.
Key Facts
- The authority does not hold the total number of vehicles registered on the Island in a format that allows the specific request to be answered.
- Data provided covers the period from April 2017 to March 2018 rather than the requested calendar year 2017.
- The response includes separate tables for 'Imported Vehicles' and 'New Vehicle Registrations'.
- The total number of vehicles registered on the Island during the 2017-18 period was 7,105.
- Category codes (e.g., A, B, C) are used for vehicle types, with definitions available in a linked PDF.

Original Request
Please can you provide a breakdown of vehicles currently registered (not necessarily currently taxed) on the Isle of Man during the period of 01/01/2017 - 31/12/2017? Ideally, the split should be Private Car, Motorcycle, Commercial Vehicle (3.5t or less), Commercial Vehicles (3.6t-10t), HGV's over 10t, Taxi's, PSV's, Motorhomes and Agricultural vehicles. You are after the numbers of vehicles registered on the Island - taxed or not, but not including where registrations are held on retention. Concerns about the movements of vehicles on (where garages are bringing in new vehicles all the time) and off (where older vehicles are being shipped off to auctions) and that there is possibly up to a 2 years gap between taxing where a vehicle may have been off the road.
