Dear ###

We write further to your request, received 12 November 2024, which states:

"Please provide in respect of the A3 road through the Parish of Patrick:

  1. Schedule for each of the above for the years 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024
  2. Actual dates that the respective work was carried out in each of the above years."

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Department of Infrastructure does not hold or cannot, after taking reasonable steps to do so, find some of the information that you have requested.
The Department is responsible for the road sweeping, gulley cleaning and hedge trimming along key service routes which are completed at least twice a year but there is no set schedule for the completion of these activities. The team will review the road conditions, and the work is completed on an ad hoc basis to allow the team to respond to unprecedented events such as sudden changes to weather conditions, flooding or blockage reports from members of the public and RTC’s.

The frequency of the activities general guidelines are as follows:

  • Hedge trimming: Frequency of these works are contingent on growth. After a particularly warm winter growth may have started and they may be beginning to flail in early March, likewise if we have a cold and grey winter and spring they wouldn’t be starting until end of April as was the case this last year.
  • Road Sweeping: This is completed at least twice a year or if a request has been made due to flooding.
  • Gully Cleaning: This is completed twice a year or if a request has been made (which typically occurs during the winter months due to increased leaf fall).

The Department does not hold records for the completion of hedge trimming but this is undertaken on a cyclical rota. The section of the A3 referenced in your request is normally completed by the end of April/ early May and then again by mid-July each year.

The Department does not hold records of the road sweeping or gullying emptying completed for January 2021 up to September 2022. We do hold records for works

completed by month from October 2022 to October 2024 which the extracted details from the monthly report can be found below:
