There are presently large cracks in the stone built jetty, known as the Castle Jetty, which is situated across the quayside from Peel Castle. I have been advised that unless structural work is undertaken soon to underpin and stabilise the Jetty, the Jetty could fall into the harbour entrance and if this happened it would be a hazard to shipping. When does the public authority intend to carry out structural work to stabilise the Jetty on a permanent basis? In the meantime, given that I've reported this on several occasions in the past, but nothing has been done, I have to assume that the public authority is unconcerned at the state of the Jetty, and is satisfied that its condition isn't a danger to the public. Why then is the public authority preventing public access to the Jetty by its installation of Heras fencing? And, given that the Jetty sits adjacent to the ancient Peel Castle, why has the public authority allowed detritus to build up on the Jetty for much of the last two years or so, thus spoiling the appearance of the Castle to visitors

We write further to your request, received 25 September 2024, which states:

1. When does the public authority intend to carry out structural work to stabilise the Jetty on a permanent basis?

Answer:

The Department are aware of the condition of Peel Castle Jetty and have already carried out stabilisation works to the bottom of the Jetty. The deck works require funding, which will be requested through a Business Case submission to the Treasury.
Once the funding is secured, the works will proceed.

Answer:
The jetty is currently closed to the public due to the ongoing repairs required for the deck. Additionally, the fencing has been erected to prevent parking on the deck.
