Dear ###

We write further to your request, received 25 September 2024, which states:

"I seek publication of the quarterly tourism figures for each year since 2018, up to the most recent figures available in 2024."

Our response to your request is as follows:

The Isle of Man Passenger Survey was previously conducted by Statistics Isle of Man (previously known as Isle of Man Economic Affairs), they published all reports up to 2018 here: https://www.gov.im/about-the-government/departments/cabinet- office/statistics-isle-of-man/passenger-survey/

2019 figures were never released by Cabinet Office, and due to Covid, no data was collected between 2020 and 2022.

In 2023, Visit Isle of Man contracted Tourism South East to resume the survey and interviewing commenced in April 2023.

Quarterly figures for 2023 and 2024 are as below:

2023 2024 Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Q1 Q2* Q3 Q4 32483 121319 108662 53348 27551 106443 Not yet available Not yet available

  • As interviewing didn't commence until April 2023, it is only possible to estimate the total number of visitors for Q1 2023. This has been achieved by establishing the visitor proportions from the 2015 to 2018 survey data for January, February and March by mode of travel each year. An average for each month and mode of travel has then been calculated. This has been weighted on a monthly basis by known passengers departing the Island by mode of travel.

** It should be emphasised that the current numbers for 2024 are estimates and will be subject to revision once Visit Isle of Man have received all relevant data for 2024. Visit Isle of Man intend to publish the annual 2024 passenger survey in Q1 2025.

All annual surveys are now published on the Visit Isle of Man Trade site: https://www.visitisleofman.com/trade/research-and-insights/annual-passenger-survey
