Dear ###
We write further to your request, received 9 September 2024, which states:
"The number of temporary workers engaged by the department by third party recruitment agencies for the following periods, 2023 & 2024 please could these be broken down by grade, AA, AO, Secretary, EO etc.”
Our response to your request is as follows:
The Department of Home Affairs (the “Department”) is comprised of six-Divisions,
those are:
The Executive Office;
The Communications Division (“Comms”);
The Prison and Probation Service (“PAPS”);
The Emergency Planning Unit;
The Fire and Rescue Service (“FRS”), and;
The Office of Cyber Security and Information Assurance (“OCSIA”).
- OCSIA employed one temporary worker during the period 2023 & 2024. Comms employed one temporary worker in an AO graded role from 18 January to 31 January 2023
- IOMFRS employed one temporary worker in an AA graded role during the period 2023 & 2024.
- PAPS employed two temporary workers during the period 2023 & 2024, in D514 (Probation Officer) and SG1 (Hostel Manager) graded roles.
No other divisions of the Department employed any temporary workers during the period specified.
In line with our duty to provide advice and assistance in accordance with Section 15 of the Act, the grades you have identified in your request (e.g. AA, AO, EO), are Public Services Commission (“PSC”) appointed and graded roles. Your request was for “temporary workers engaged by the department by third party recruitment agencies”, as temporary staff are not employed via the PSC, their appointments would not have the same employment terms or grading in the same manner as a PSC appointment,
however, their role and the responsibilities assigned to the role would align to a PSC appointed role at given grade.
Please note that the number provided for 2024 is based on information held at the time of the request. This number could change by the end of this year if additional temporary workers were to be engaged by the Department.
Please quote the reference number 4111298 in any future communications.
