Summary

The requester asked for total Covid-19 PPE spend from January 2020 to July 2024, but Manx Care could only provide data from its inception in April 2021 to June 2024, noting that earlier records are held by the Department of Health and Social Care. The authority disclosed total PPE spend figures but clarified that these include both Covid-related and business-as-usual items.

Key Facts

  • Manx Care was created on 1 April 2021 and does not hold PPE data prior to this date.
  • Pre-April 2021 data is held by the Department of Health and Social Care.
  • The authority does not distinguish between Covid-19 specific PPE and general business-as-usual PPE spend.
  • Total PPE spend from April 2021 to June 2024 was £1,684,416.

Dear ###

We write further to your request, received 22 July 2024, which states:

"Dear Sir,

Please may you supply me with the total spend on Covid-19 PPE from 1 January 2020 until current (22 July 2024).

Please may you let me know if this figure is the total spend or if there is a portion which has not been accounted for as it was paid for by the Department of Health and Social Care instead.

Thanks."

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance Manx Care is unable to provide the information you have requested. This is in line with section 11(3)a of the Act, as a practical refusal reason applies; namely we do not hold or cannot, after taking reasonable steps to do so, find the information that you have requested. Manx Care was created on 1 April 2021 so any data which pre-dates our creation would be held by the Department of Health and Social Care.

I have detailed below the information that is held:

From April 2021 to June 2024, total spend on PPE has been £1,684,416 broken down as follows:

Year Amount 21/22 723,151 22/23 512,538 23/24 356,262 24/25* 92,465 TOTAL 1,684,416

*24/25 figures are from 1st April to 30th June 2024 as July’s data is not yet available.

We recovered £3,356,581 from Treasury’s Contingency Fund in 21/22 and £888,434 in 22/23. The reason these figures are higher than the spend in the year is that they also included amounts for write offs of stock from previous years.

We do not distinguish between Covid related and business as usual PPE spend so the above figures are the total spend in each year for PPE.

Please quote the reference number 4002369 in any future communications.
