I write further to your request which was received on 27 March 2018 and which states:

"For each of the last 12 months, how many Freedom of Information requests have been: (a) received (b) refused (c) answered (d) published on the government website"

Thank you for the clarification of your request which you subsequently provided on 28 March 2018 and which confirmed that in relation to part (b) of your request, ‘refused’ requests includes - Any refusal notices issued under section 11(2) of the Act, Grants of requests for information, and any refusal notice issued under section 19(3) of the Act, Confirming or denying existence of particular information. I am pleased to provide all of the information you have requested in the table contained at Annex A to the response letter. In order to assist your consideration of our response, we have included some additional information in the table which we trust you will find helpful. Alongside our response to part a) of your request we have included information that identifies the number of requests received by the Treasury that were subsequently withdrawn by the applicant. Against part b) of our reply we have identified whether the refusal notice was issued in relation to the whole, or part, of the information requested.

In relation to the refusal notices declared under part b) of our reply; it may be helpful for you to note that – • On 4 occasions a refusal notice has been issued under section 11(2)(a) of the Act (exemptions engaged) • On 11 occasions a refusal notice has been issued under section 11(2)(b) of the Act (practical refusal reasons) • On 2 occasions a refusal notice has been under section 11(2)(c) of the Act (clarification of a request was sought but not received in accordance with section 14(2) of the Act).
