Our response to your request is as follows:

The following data is based on ADMISSIONS between 01 Jan 2015 and 30 April 2024. Numbers EXCLUDE Private patients and Archived episodes. Results below are a count of Patient Admissions (Spells) – it is not unfeasible that a Patient can be admitted more than once in this timeframe.

1.a. There were 139 Patient SPELLS that referenced 167 episodes with a ICD10 clinical coding I460 (Cardiac arrest with successful resuscitation).

1.b. Where I460 (Cardiac arrest with successful resuscitation) is referenced in a ICD10 Episode coding secondary position, the ICD10 code in front of I460 will be the cause of the cardiac arrest. Of the 139 spells, 108 of these spells had episode(s) with I460 in a secondary position. Please see supporting documentation for the breakdown of these Diagnosis (Annex 1).

  1. There were 1275 Patient SPELLS that referenced ICD10 clinical coding I480 through to I489 (Atrial Fibrillation) in the PRIMARY diagnosis position.

  2. There were 10,644 Patient SPELLS that referenced ICD10 clinical coding I480 through to I489 (Atrial Fibrillation) in the first 19 secondary diagnosis positions.
