The cost of the provision of GPs to run the MEDS service at present during the period 8 January – 31 March 2024 without the proposed overnight closures incorporated is therefore: £178,955.84. However, the current rates of pay will not ensure the operation of MEDS and more GPs are likely to remove themselves from not just the overnight rota, but from all shifts rendering the service inoperable.
MEDS GP Pay Uplift The MEDS Management-led pay proposal which was accepted and approved by ELT on 27 November 2023, was to pay MEDS GPs £120 per hour for shifts up to midnight on any day of the week and £100 per hour for shifts undertaken between midnight and 8am on weekends and on Bank Holidays to reflect the decreased activity and demand in the ‘silent hours’.
The table below (and at Appendix 1) sets out the costs associated with the MEDS Management proposed model and pay structure with the overnight closures represented:
The cost of the provision of GPs to run this service from 8 January – 31 March 2024, with the overnight closures incorporated and with the revised rates of GP pay in place is: £176,960.00 or £1,955.84 less

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance Manx Care is unable to provide the information you have requested, namely the Policy Impact Assessment, this is in line with section 11(3)a of the Act, as a practical refusal reason applies; namely we do not hold or cannot, after taking reasonable steps to do so, find the information that you have requested. Attached is a copy of the Business Case requested.
