In respect of your third question we asked you on 20th March 2017 to clarify your meaning of ‘bank teachers’ in your request and you confirmed via email on the same day that you were happy for the term ‘supply teacher’ to be used instead. Following on from this we contacted you again to explain that payments to supply teachers for the month of March were still being processed as they are paid in arrears on a monthly basis.

Therefore, in respect of your third question, the total weekly cost cannot yet be provided for that period. However, in our subsequent correspondence you agreed that you would be content with the information requested for any other date.

Accordingly, to be of assistance to you, we can advise that an approximate indicative cost to the Department for supply teacher costs for one week is £32,218.80 (based on January 2017’s monthly supply teacher costs of £128,875.23, divided by 4 weeks). The February 2017 figure was not used as there were only 3 teaching weeks in that month due to the spring half-term.
