REQUEST UNDER THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2015 (“the Act”)
Thank you for your application dated 15 October 2017 for the following information:
“Could you list the number of instances of Government Data where the data does not reside on the
island and the jurisdictions in which those instances do exist?”
This was subsequently clarified and an interpretation agreed as:
“Of the services that Government Technology Services (GTS) provides, in what circumstance have
GTS decided to process data off island, and where, if transferred outside of the home jurisdiction.”
Response to your request
As a Data Processor for IOM Government, GTS does not make decisions on where electronic data
should be stored or processed; this is the responsibility of Data Controllers/Owners. It is also the
responsibility of Data Controllers/Owners to classify their data, following which GTS will provide
advice and guidance on the most appropriate method and location for storing and processing this
electronic data.
Electronic data for which GTS is the Data Controller/Owner is all stored and processed in IOM
Government’s data centres on the Isle of Man.
