13th July 2017 MEOIRYN SHEE-ELLAN VANNIN ISLE OF MAN CONSTABULARY Freedom of Information

I write in connection with your request for information dated 4th July 2017, which was received by this office on 4th July 2017. I note you seek access to the following information: How many sexually related crimes have been reported since 1st January 2017? In six-month period 01/01/2017 to 30/06/2017, there have been 42 crimes reported that have been categorised as sexually-related. How many of the crimes have resulted in a conviction? Following receipt of your request searches were conducted within the Isle of Man Constabulary to locate information relevant to your request. I can confirm that the Isle of Man Constabulary hold the information you have requested. To locate the information relevant to your request searches were conducted within the Analysis Department. I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full. The first thing to say here is that some for the cases since January 2017 may still be in the hands of the judicial systems so it is not possible to accurately describe which of the offences have resulted in a conviction, some of these matters may last for months until a conviction is known. For the purposes of this response we have considered the Crime recording counting rules and have provided a summary of the results as we have recorded against the crimes themselves. Grand Offence Description Total RAPE 16 INDECENT ASSAULT ON FEMALE 10 INDECENT ASSAULT ON FEMALE UNDER 16 YEARS 7 U.S.!. These cases have not yet all been concluded, so it is not possible to state how many will result in convictions. Of the remaining 33, 14 have been discontinued outstanding but no further action, 14 are still being investigated, and 5 were determined to not be recordable crimes. It should be noted that, under crime counting rules, one crime report may relate to more than one offence. It should also be recognised that this data relates to the offences reported in the period, and that, particularly with sexual offences, some reports relate to historic crimes that occurred prior to the reporting period. For this data almost half of the reported crimes were committed prior to the reporting period.
