Summary
The requester asked for statistics on NCEF forms filed by retailers and businesses struck off the registry in specific Douglas streets over the last 12 months. The authority disclosed that it could not filter NCEF data by 'retailers' due to legal limitations, but provided total counts for NCEF submissions and various business deregistrations meeting the address criteria.
Key Facts

- 3 foreign companies meeting the address criteria were struck off the register.

Dear ###,
We write further to your request which was received on 16 August 2022 and which states:
"I would like to know how many NCEF forms have been filed from retailers in the Strand Street, Castle Street and Duke Street areas of Douglas areas regarding closure of business in the last 12 months. Also, how many businesses have been stricken off the business registry in the Strand Street, Castle Street and Duke Street areas of Douglas over the last 12 months."
Whilst our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the public authority does not hold or cannot, after taking reasonable steps to do so, find some of the information that you have requested. We are unable to provide the response requested as there is no provision under the Foreign Companies Act 2014 for the activity of any foreign registered entity to disclose its principle trade or activity to the Registry. As such, we cannot provide results specific to 'Retailers'. However, in order to assist, we have, over the period received 44 NCEF submissions, none of which have any identifiable relationship to Strand Street, Castle Street or Duke Street. Our records show that a total of 3 foreign companies have been struck off the register in the period which meet the address criteria and an additional 2 local 1931 Register Companies have been struck off, a further company has been dissolved along with 7 business names having ceased their registration.
