Dear ###
We write further to your request which was received on 18 July 2022 and which states:
“Please can you provide a breakdown of the number of days that schools have had to send home children as a consequence of Union action through 2021 and 2022. If you need to include absences due to Covid 19 also then so be it.” Our response to your request is as follows: While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the public authority does not hold or cannot, after taking reasonable steps to do so, find some of the information that you have requested. This is because children have only been asked to work from home when absence levels in the school have required that action. The Department would like to confirm that it has not ‘sent classes home’ once the school day has commenced. Some year groups have been advised in advance to study from home rather than attend school on a particular day, as a result of staff absence. By way of advice and assistance please see the attached copies of the Department’s response to Freedom of Information requests 2356725 and 2452621 which detail the total number of days children were asked to work from home for the periods 08/09/21-29/03/22 and 29/03/22 – 25/05/22. For the remaining period 25/05/22 – 21/07/22 the number of days pupils were asked to work from home was as follows:
Ballakermeen High School Year 7 – 0 days Year 8 – 3 days Year 9 – 1 days Year 10 – 0 days Year 11 – 0 days Castle Rushen High School Year 7 – 0 days Year 8 – 0 days
Year 9 – 1 days Year 10 – 0.5 days Year 11- 0 days Queen Elizabeth II High School Year 7 – 0 days Year 8 – 0 days Year 9 – 0 days Year 10 – 0 days Year 11 – 0 days St Ninian’s High School Year 7 – 0 days Year 8 – 1 day Year 9 – 2 days Year 10 – 0 days Year 11- 0 days Ramsey Grammar School Year 7 – 0 days Year 8 – 0 days Year 9 – 0 days Year 10 – 0 days Year 11 – 0 days Primary Schools Children were not asked to work from home during the period 25/05/22 – 21/07/22.
