Original Request

It has been over six months since the last FOI was made regarding the Steam Locomotive number 16, or known as 'Mannin'. The previous FOI confirmd that restoration work had started on this locomotive and had incurred additional expenses in doing so, above and beyond the asbestos removal and assessments/surveys. Based on this I would like to request the following; What are the current costs incurred on the work, to date on this locomotive? What schedule is the restoration work running to? It was publicised that Spring 2023 was when this locomotive would return to service. How much more will it cost to complete the project and what is the entire budget?

Our response to your request is as follows: 1. The total spend to date is £169,898. 2. The initial schedule has been impacted by the lockdowns and other priorities. Any delivery schedule is constrained by the budget available and the costs to complete; therefore, it is not expected that the locomotive will return to service in spring 2023. 3. This information is not currently available as it would depend on the nature and quantity of the work required to complete the restoration.
