Summary

The request sought a list of bus cancellations during the TT fortnight (excluding race closures) and communications regarding the decision to stop publishing delay updates on Facebook. The Department of Infrastructure provided a detailed table of cancellations by date and route but withheld the specific internal communications, citing the fluid nature of operations and the risk of providing incorrect information.

Key Facts

  • The Department of Infrastructure released a table detailing bus cancellations from May 30 to June 12, 2022.
  • Cancellations were categorized by route: South Coast, West, Inner Douglas, and Total.
  • The highest number of cancellations occurred on Saturday, June 11, with a total of 37.
  • Internal communications explain that real-time cancellations were not published on Facebook because the situation changes too rapidly, risking misinformation.
  • The authority stated that customers should use findmybus.im or call 662525 for the most up-to-date information during the TT period.

Subject: FW: Bus cancellations   Hi   I am still waiting for Emily/Minister’s approval on your earlier response however have also asked for the following information.   Are you able to provide this?   Kind regards   From: Sent: 07 June 2022 15:10 To: Subject: Re: Bus cancellations   Caution: This email is from an external sender. Please take care before opening any attachments or following any links.  Ah okay, no worries! I just wanted to ask how many bus services have been cancelled so far this TT? (Including practice week if that's possible). It would be good to contextualise this with how many services out of the number that were supposed to be on, so we can tell if this is high or not.  If that doesn't make sense or it's not possible to get that information, just let me know.    On Tue, 7 Jun 2022 at 15:05, wrote: Hi   I’ve sent it to IOM Transport and am just awaiting for Minister approval.   Can you send the other query to me and I can forward it on?   Thanks From: Sent: 07 June 2022 15:03 To: Subject: Re: Bus cancellations   Caution: This email is from an external sender. Please adjust the draft response as you see fit:   ‘Over TT Isle of Man Transport need to manages the unique disruptions that this period brings (which are classed as duplicating buses due to overcapacity, which in turn causes delays, diverting buses due to RTCs and delays to buses due to congestions/races  these include diversions, road closures, weather disruption, RTCs, congestion etc to name a few ) – increased   Drivers are directed supported by the Bus Supervisors to support the demand and manage these disruptions, it’s a very fluid operation and putting out cancellations alterations does not work during this time, as within minutes things change and the wrong information is given. Therefore during this peak period we are recommending customers use findmybus.im, call 662525 or visit one of our information points for the most up to date information.   We have duplicated many services over the past week, as well as ran extra late night owls at 02:00 due to the lack of Taxis, to put the service into perspective on Sunday 29th May we carried 6,457 passengers and yesterday we carried 20,365 passengers./   Thanks   Isle of Man Transport Transport Headquarters Banks Circus Douglas Isle of Man IM1 5PT www.bus.im www.rail.im                From:
