All data (emails, memos, spreadsheets, notes etc.) relating to the setting/calculation/evaluation of Sessional lecturer post's Hourly Rates of Pay (to include Grade 1, Grade 4, Grade 5, Meeting) from 2016-2018. 2. Minutes of JNC (Joint Negotiating Committee), JCC (Joint Consultative Committee), ESO (Education Support Officers), SLT (Senior Leadership Team) meetings relating to Sessional lecturer post's Hourly Rates of Pay (to include Grade 1, Grade 4, Grade 5, Meeting) from 2016-2018. 3. This Statement sets out particulars of the terms and conditions on which the DEPARTMENT OF
EDUCATION AND CHILDREN hereinafter referred to as “the Department”) is employing:

EDUCATION (HOMEFIELD ROAD or the UNIVERSITY CENTRE), BUT THE
DEPARTMENT RESERVES THE RIGHT TO TRANSFER THE POSTHOLDER TO ANOTHER
PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT ON THE ISLAND AT A LATER DATE SHOULD THE NEED
ARISE.
STARTING AND FINISHING DATES OF EMPLOYMENT
Your employment with the Department will commence on (DATE). Your last day of employment for pay and related purposes will be (DATE) and this will be without further notice.
Terms and Conditions - Sessional (Limited Term) Lecturer.
A Sessional (Limited Term) Lecturer shall be entitled to:
i) Pay will be calculated according to the hours worked and the relevant pay grade (see attached scales) having regard to the course(s) to be taught. The current hourly rate applicable to this course is (ENTER HOURLY RATE)
ii) Payment at half the hourly rate if you are requested to attend meetings.
iii) There is no entitlement to sick leave or sick pay.
iv) Maternity and paternity leave is in accordance with the requirements of the Employment Act 2006.
iv) Payment in respect of pro-rata annual leave enhancement is in accordance with the
Annual Leave Regulations 2007.
v) Automatic eligibility for membership of the Teachers’ Superannuation Scheme in
accordance with the Scheme rules unless the Sessional (Limited Term) Lecturer
formally opts out.

Sessional Lecturers must satisfy the Department of Education and Children’s requirements regarding health and qualifications.

This offer and your acceptance of it, does not constitute a contract of permanent employment but an undertaking to carry out the course(s) listed in the schedule in accordance with the terms and conditions set out here, the procedures of the Isle of Man College of Further and Higher Education and any regulations laid down from time to time by the Department of Education and Children. You will be subject to the provisions of the Terms and Conditions of Service for Lecturers (hereinafter referred to as “the Terms and Conditions of Service for Lecturers”) as they apply to Sessional Lecturers which include details of the disciplinary, capability and grievance procedures which apply to your post (see Section 2.2 of the Terms and Conditions of Service for Lecturers which state the provisions that apply to Sessional Lecturers.

Notice Periods
The appointment, in relation to each course, is conditional upon the required minimum number of students enrolling. In the event of insufficient enrolments you will be notified by the College of Further and Higher Education and the appointment will be cancelled.
Sessional (Limited Term) Lecturers of courses which fall below the minimum required number of students for two consecutive weeks may receive written notice that the course will close whereupon the appointment will be terminated after the third week. No payment will be made for classes which continue in contravention of the above conditions. (It is your responsibility to bring low numbers to the attention of the appropriate Programme Manager or Assistant Principal).
The appointment may be terminated in whole or in part by either party by two weeks’ notice in writing.
Sessional (Limited Term) Lecturers will not receive further formal notice of termination following receipt of the offer of appointment which indicates your last week of service for pay and related purposes.
- Remuneration
Payment will be made on a monthly basis.
(a) Whilst it is expected that Sessional (Limited Term) Lecturers will work their contracted hours, in exceptional circumstances this may not be possible and any fluctuation in hours, either up or down, will be reflected by adjustment in salary the following month.
(b) Claims should be made monthly on the appropriate form and should, together with the register(s) if the College requires them, reach the Principal through the Programme Manager on the last Friday in each calendar month, otherwise payment may be delayed.
(c) It is most important that the claim form is completed in every detail and any change of address notified to the College promptly. Any lack of detail or omissions in either the claim or the registers may delay payment and necessitate returning the form or register for completion. A sample claim form is attached.
(d) Claims must accord with class registers and Sessional (Limited Term) Lecturers may only claim for classes they themselves have taught. (Approved deputising Lecturers must submit their own claim for any classes they have taken.)
(e) National Insurance contributions will be deducted in accordance with regulations issued by the Department of Social Care.
(f) Income Tax will be deducted in accordance with regulations issued by the Treasury.
(g) VAT - Customs & Excise have ruled that the Department of Education and Children is not liable for VAT on the amount of fees due to a Sessional (Limited Term) Lecturer.
- Responsibilities of Sessional Lecturers
Sessional (Limited Term) Lecturers are responsible to the Programme Manager or Assistant Principal through whom their appointment has been arranged. In addition to teaching the duties include:
The registration of students
The preparation of lessons and teaching material appropriate to the relevant syllabus
The preparation of class schemes of work and the maintenance of records of work
The setting, correction and assessment of classwork and homework and the maintenance of such records
Ensuring that students are entered for any appropriate examination(s) prior to any deadline date
The preparation, setting of exam papers and marking of examination scripts as necessary
Providing it is agreed in advance by your Programme Manager, if you are required to attend staff development session or an exam board or any other additional duty, this will be paid at half the agree hourly rate.
Your Programme Manager will require details and information on these areas and Sessional (Limited Term ) Lecturers are required to allow full access to this information. Sessional (Limited Term) Lecturing staff are requested to ensure that classrooms are left in a satisfactory condition when vacated and that registers are completed and signed within one week of the end of the course and are never taken off the premises of the Isle of Man College of Further and Higher Education (unless the class is held at another location).
Sessional (Limited Term) Lecturers are required to be in their classroom in sufficient time to enable classes to commence punctually at the appointed time.
If for any reason a Sessional (Limited Term) Lecturer cannot be present to teach a class, the
Programme Manager or the Assistant Principal should be notified as early as possible.
Substitute Lecturers may only be appointed by the Isle of Man College of Further and Higher
Education.
- Health and Safety
Sessional (Limited Term) Lecturing staff must familiarise themselves with Isle of Man College of Further and Higher Education Health & Safety procedures. Accidents must be reported within 24 hours by completion of an accident report form, obtainable from the College Reception. Once completed the form should then be returned to Reception.
