Summary

The requester asked for annual diabetes diagnosis statistics for children under 18 on the Isle of Man over the last five years. Manx Care provided complete data for children under 16 but could not supply reliable statistics for those aged 16-18 due to limitations in their legacy IT system.

Key Facts

  • Children under 16 are managed by the Paediatric Diabetes Service, while those aged 16-18 are managed by the Adult Diabetes Service.
  • The Adult Diabetes Service uses an older system that cannot extract reliable statistics for the 16-18 age group.
  • Type 2 diabetes diagnoses in children under 16 were zero from 2017 to 2019, with only one case recorded in both 2020 and 2021.
  • Type 1 diabetes diagnoses in children under 16 peaked at 8 in 2018 and dropped to 2 in both 2019 and 2020.
  • The response covers the period from January 2017 to January 13, 2022.
