Summary
The requester asked for monthly organ failure statistics from 2015-2021 cross-referenced with COVID-19 status and specific medications, but Manx Care only provided annual admission totals by organ type for Nobles Hospital, stating they could not derive the requested medication links.
Key Facts
- Manx Care could not provide data linking organ failures to Remdesivir or Midazolam administration as it would require creating new information.
- The provided data covers annual admissions to Nobles Hospital for respiratory, hepatic, renal, and multi-organ failures between 2015 and 2021.
- A significant backlog of uncoded clinical episodes from 2020 may have resulted in lower reported numbers for that year.
- No records were found for 'Multisystem Inflammatory syndrome linked to cov-2' in the search.
- The request was partially fulfilled with an outcome of 'Some information sent but not all held'.

Dear ###
We write further to your request which was received on 7th December 2021 which states:
"Pls provide the number of organ failures per month; referencing type of organ, for the years 2015-2021 inclusive.” and following further clarification: “I would like to know of the organ failures relating to those classified as ‘covid’ in ANY of the patients records. Cross referenced with Remdesivir & Midazolam” Our Response Unfortunately, we are not able to provide all the information you requested. Complying with the request for information would require the public authority to do one or more of the matters mentioned in section 8(3) [things a public authority is not required to do by the Act S11(3)(b)], in this instance, creating or deriving information from information that we hold. We can only provide numbers relating to organ failures recorded at Nobles Hospital and cannot connect these results to the administering of medications. The table below sets out the number of admissions to Nobles Hospital between 2015 and 2021 related to organ failures.
Please note: i. there is a considerable backlog of uncoded, finished consultant episodes from 2020 which could contribute to lower numbers being seen in these results during this period. Manx Care is actively working to develop a sustainable, accurate and timely clinical coding function to address this situation ii. there were no records in our search for “Multisystem Inflammatory syndrome linked to cov-2” Year Respiratory Admissions Hepatic Admissions Renal Admissions Multi organ Admissions Total 2015 37 18 267 4 326 2016 58 8 285 2 353 2017 120 27 494 5 646 2018 213 16 522 12 763 2019 105 10 257 4 376 2020 20 1 62 3 86 2021 116 31 430 2 579
