Summary

A request for detailed statistics on Covid-19 deaths, vaccination status, and vaccine adverse effects in the Isle of Man was submitted to Manx Care. The authority responded that it does not hold the requested information, citing the lack of death registration data and the use of the UK's Yellow Card scheme for adverse event reporting.

Key Facts

  • Manx Care does not hold death registration data, including cause of death, vaccination status, or underlying health issues.
  • The Isle of Man does not have a separate reporting system for vaccine adverse effects due to its small population.
  • Adverse effect data is reported through the UK's Yellow Card scheme instead.
  • The authority suggested the requester contact the Cabinet Office for death statistics.
  • The Weekly Surveillance Report published by Public Health was recommended as an alternative source.

Dear ###

We write further to your request which was received on 1st December 2021 which states:

1. What are the ages of all Covid19 deaths in the Isle of Man? 2. Are all the Covid19 deaths directly attributed to Covid19 or did the deaths occur with
the persons having had Covid within 28 days, in other words, out of the total number
of Covid19 deaths how many occurred with Covid19 being a secondary cause of death? 3. Out of all deaths attributed to Covid19 how many people were fully vaccinated, how many were part vaccinated and how many were unvaccinated? 4. Out of all deaths attributed to Covid19 how many people had underlying health issues? 5. Have there been any deaths recorded on the Isle of Man as a result of an adverse effect of any Covid19 vaccine, if so, how many? 6. Have there been any serious harm/injuries/effects recorded on the Isle of Man as a result of an adverse effect of any Covid19 vaccine, if so, how many?"

Our Response 1. What are the ages of all Covid19 deaths in the Isle of Man? While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the public authority does not hold or cannot, after taking reasonable steps to do so, find the information that you have requested. However, you may wish to re-submit your request to the Cabinet Office who may be able to help you.
You may also find the Weekly Surveillance Report, published by Public Health, useful: www.gov.im/covid19-weekly-surveillance-report

2.

Are all the Covid19 deaths directly attributed to Covid19 or did the deaths occur with the persons having had Covid within 28 days, in other words, out of the total number
of Covid19 deaths how many occurred with Covid19 being a secondary cause of death?

Our Response for Q2 – Q5: While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance Manx Care is unable to provide the information that you have requested. This is in line with Section 11(3)a of the Act, as a practical refusal reason applies; namely we do not hold or cannot, after taking reasonable steps to do so, find the information that you have requested. Manx Care does not hold death registration data: cause of death is recorded on the death certificate but this does not make reference to vaccination status or underlying health issues. 6.
Have there been any serious harm/injuries/effects recorded on the Isle of Man as a result of an adverse effect of any Covid19 vaccine, if so, how many? While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance Manx Care is unable to provide the information that you have requested. This is in line with Section 11(3)a of the Act, as a practical refusal reason applies; namely we do not hold or cannot, after taking reasonable steps to do so, find the information that you have requested. The Isle of Man doesn’t have a separate reporting system here on the Island as our population is so small that we wouldn’t be able to glean any statistically significant information, which is why we use the UK’s Yellow Card scheme for this. The Channel Islands and other UK nations also feed into this for the same reason. We do not hold any separate information regarding the adverse effects, regarding age and condition and therefore cannot provide any reports. You may find the attached link help: Please click here for the Yellow Card link. Please quote the reference number 2121653 in any future communications.
