Summary

The requester asked for monthly registered death statistics from 2016 to the present, split by age. The authority provided data for August to November 2021 but refused the 2016-2019 data due to lack of readily available format and confirmed that age at death is not recorded by the Department for Enterprise.

Key Facts

  • The Department for Enterprise does not record age at death on death registrations.
  • Data for 2016 to July 2019 is not held in a readily available format and would require considerable collation.
  • Monthly death counts were provided for August, September, October, and November 2021.
  • The authority suggested the Cabinet Office may hold cause of death information.
  • A separate published request (2099101) contains death statistics with age data for 2019-2021.

Dear ####

We write further to your request which was received on 24 November 2021 and which states:

"Please can you confirm the number of registered deaths per month from 2016 to the present day, if possible split out by age.

Thank you"

Our response to your request is as follows:

I refer your previous request (1936589) dated 7 September 2021 which requested registered deaths from July 2019 to July 2021; this information was provided to you in full however please note that the same information from 2016 to July 2019 is not held in a readily available format and would require the Authority to undertake considerable collation of information. Additionally the Authority does not record the age at death on such registrations.

Following on from your previous request, I have detailed the number of registered deaths for August to November 2021, which I hope you find useful:

August 2021 September 2021 October 2021 November 2021 78 89 79 89

I also note that an additional request concerning cause of death’ has been submitted by you (2106362) for the same timeframe as requested above. Again, the Authority does not record this information however, the Cabinet Office may hold this information. I can see that request (2099101: https://services.gov.im/freedom-of- information/search) which is published on the Isle of Man Government website lists death statistics ranging from 2019 to 2021 and lists age at time of death, this may be of interest to you.

Please quote the reference number 2106261 in any future communications.
