Summary
A request was made regarding parking regulations, penalty statistics, and bay dimensions for vans and motorcycles on the Douglas promenade following regeneration works. Key Facts
- Cars and light vans are permitted in most bays subject to time restrictions, while motorcycles are restricted to dedicated bays.
- The authority cannot categorize fixed penalty notices by vehicle type, so only total figures for all offences are available.

- Echelon parking bays are generally 2.0m wide x 4.5m deep prior to works, and 2.5m wide x 4.5m deep currently.

Dear ###
We write further to your request which was received on 28 September 2021 and which states:
"Following the changes to the parking layout on Douglas promenade as part of the Douglas Promenade Regeneration Scheme, could you confirm? 1. Whether vans and motorbikes are legally permitted to park in the designated bays on Douglas prom? 2. How many van or motorcycle users have received fixed penalty notices while parked on Douglas prom in 2021? 3. How big the parking bays on Douglas prom are? And what size they were prior to the work commencing?"
Our response to your request is as follows: 1. Currently, cars and light vans are permitted to park in the majority of bays subject to time restrictions. Motorcycles are only allowed to park in dedicated motorcycle parking bays. These restrictions are currently being reviewed. 2. 201 tickets have been issued along the entire length of Douglas Promenade in 2021. This is the total number of tickets issued on the Promenade for all offences and all vehicle types as there is no method of categorising by particular vehicle type. 3. The parking bay sizes along the promenade varied according to their location and the available space. In general, parallel parking bays were 5.5m x 1.8m but increased to a width of 2.4m where possible. The echelon parking bays were generally 2.0m wide x 4.5m deep. The current parking bays again vary in size, but are all within the applicable current guidance. In general, parallel parking bays are 5.5m x 1.8m but increase to a width of 2.5m where space allows. The echelon parking bays are generally 2.5m wide x 4.5m deep.
