Dear ###

We write further to your request which was received on 16 August 2021 and which states:

"How much has 'Operation Strongbox' cost the Manx taxpayer thus far, the estimated budget for the full operation and what results has this yielded in terms of seizures?"

Our response to your request is as follows: I have detailed below the information that is being released to you.

Results The request has three parts: cost so far, estimated budget, and seizures.
Cost and Budget The total cost so far for overtime and unsocial hours payments is: £605.73 The operation runs with duty staff and assistance from other departments when required and has run since 28th June 2021. Operation Strongbox has been absorbed into normal policing duties i.e. without additional cost to the taxpayer beyond our normal financing, and in the overtime and antisocial hours as outlined. The FOI requires that the Constabulary provides what is held, rather than having to create data which it does not already hold, for example we may know the amount of hours spent on an operation, but would not then necessarily have to work out how much this would be in terms of salary etc. that sum is not something which we ordinarily hold. As such there is no estimated total budget for the full operation.

Seizures The third part relates to seizures, which have been of both drugs and money, and have occurred at various locations. At the current moment the seizures between the start of the operation on 28th June 2021 and 16th August 2021 are as follows: There have so far been 27 investigations into money laundering and drug production related to the operation. A few seizures from very recent investigations have not yet been possible to include in table below yet, as results of testing are pending.

Heroin (g) Cocaine (g) Cannabis (g) £ Seized Total Total Weight seized 172.6 24.45 1123.4

Street Value £43,150 £2,445 £33,702 £16,455 £95,752 In addition small amounts of other drugs have been seized, such as amphetamine, steroids and prescription drugs. Please quote the reference number 1947641 in any future communications.
