| Fried Plantain Ingredients 2 ripe plantains 2 to 3 tablespoons oil, canola or vegetable oil, for frying Sea salt 1) Peel plantains by cutting off both ends, and cutting a slit down the side of each plantain. 2) Remove the plantain peel by peeling it side to side. 3)Cut the peeled plantains into 1/4-inch-thick slices. 4)Drizzle just enough oil into a nonstick pan to coat the bottom of the pan, and place it on medium heat. When the oil begins to shimmer, but not smoke, add plantains (work in batches). Fry for 1 /2 minutes on one side, flip and cook for 1 minute on the other side. 5) Remove plantains from the pan and drain on paper towels. 6) Sprinkle lightly with sea salt to give a sweet and salty taste to your fried ripe plantains. | Dough Ingredients Koeksister 375ml cake flour Sryup Ingredients 4 1/2tsp. baking powder 250ml water 1/4 tsp. salt 625ml white sugar 20g butter or margarine 2 1/2 tsp.lemon juice 150ml milk 1tsp. vanilla essence 750ml canola oil Put the water and sugar in a pot and bring to boil on low heat. Stir frequently until the sugar is completely dissolved. Boil for 7 minutes. Remove the pot from the stove and stir in the lemon juice and vanilla essence. Put the pot into the fridge. Mix the flour, salt, and baking powder thoroughly in a mixing bowl. Break the butter/margarine into small pieces and add to the four mixture. Add the milk. Mix well until a dough is formed. Roll the dough out to a thickness of 5 mm. Cut the dough into thin strips. Take 3 strips and join their ends on one side. Braid the strips to desired koeksister length and join other ends. Heat the oil in a pot until fairly hot. Put about 3 koeksisters (or what can fit)at a time in the oil and fry them on both sides until they get a golden-brown color. As you remove the koeksisters for the oil, place them directly ito the syrup from the fridge. It is important to keep the syrup cool, so between soakings, return the syrup to the fridge to maintain its coolness. Remove the koeksisters from the syrup and allow the excess syrup to drip off. Place them in the refrigerator to cool and then eat! |

Hi
Great to hear from you!
This all sounds great. We had a team meeeng this evening and spoke about HBN and we've got a few different ideas.
Is there any chance you are free tomorrow or at some point for this week, and I can go over our ideas with you? I should be around most of the morning if that works for you?
Many thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks for geing back to me – typical lockdown!! Now that it’s over, I was wondering if we could get planning for this to happen? The sessions wouldn’t need to be too long as some of them (the youngers) have a short ameneon span! Our general lessons are usually no longer than 50 minutes to give you an idea of their max capacity to engage ! (we wouldn’t expect the workshop to be this long of course) What kind of eme would you guys usually base them on? Would you be available for the WB 1s March? So would kick it off with the staff meeeng Tuesday 2nd March at 3.45? Let me know your thoughts!
Thanks a lot,

Hi
I apologise for our delayed response. We were taking a well deserved break over the holidays.
I absolutely love the ideas you have given above, and I think it's a really good set up. How long would you anecipate each of these sessions to be? - Just so I can make sure we have enough content for each session.
I suppose the only issue is the new lockdown, but we would certainly be interested in picking this up once lockdown is over!
Many thanks,

This is the kind of thing myself and Lauren had in mind, if you let me know what you think: Tuesday 3.45 staff meeeng with teachers Wednesday KS1 assembly followed by small ‘workshops’ with the year groups Thursday ks2 assembly followed by small ‘workshops’ with the year groups Friday (just as a school.. but just to let you know), we will use the day for each year to research POC key figures.
We would like to dedicate the week to really educaeng ourselves and others about it hence the day by day, we feel it would be a good focus. It is looking like it would be the 3rd/4th week of the school term due to our school diary, would this work for you guys? I know it seems like a lot but let us know your thoughts and we can go from there.
Thank you!

Hi
How are you?
Yes, we would be very happy to come in and do some work with both students and staff.
At the moment, we run KS1 and KS2 assemblies separately, as the content slightly differs. It sounds like you'd be interested in both of those. We could also come and do some interaceve aceviees with classes too.
Regarding teacher training, we would be happy to provide this too. Just give us an idea of dates for this and maybe anything specific you would like to be covered.
I also just wanted to make you aware that from the New Year, we are asking schools to donate whatever they feel necessary for our services in order for us to conenue building the POC IOM name and status. Let me know if you have any issues with this.
Let me know what you think of the above, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,

Page 2 of 4 The plan is...
Recepbon - Paper plates game. If you can please provide us with coloured pens and pencils. How big is your recepbon class, just to ensure I have enough paper plates?
Year 1 and 2 - We have a game called 'Where in the world' which involves Disney. We will just need access to a projector, screen and speakers.
Year 3 and 4 - We have a 'Guess the food game', (no eabng involved!) Again, we will just need access to a projector and screen.
Year 5 and 6 - The music game that I discussed with you, and the 'Faces of the World' game. Again, we will just need access to a projector, screen and speakers.
I am so excited to try these out with you guys. Some really fun and interacbve lesson plans to test!

Hi
I had a lovely weekend, thank you. I hope you did too!
And yes, we have a big bag of books that we would be happy to lend to you for the week. I will be sure to bring them along on Tuesday!
Many thanks,

Hope you had a fab weekend.
Just a quick one, POC week and world book day coincide so we were thinking of asking everyone to focus on a book that has either a BAME main character or author or the seong of another a culture on WBD. I remember you guys having a big selecbon of books from the teacher evening you did, is there any you could bring to the staff meebng on the Tuesday that we could use for the week and give back at the end of the week? No worries if not
Thanks a lot.
