We write further to your request which was received on 17 June 2021 and which states (sic):
"can you please provide the figures for 1)the number of driving tests carried out annually for the last 5 years 2)the average waiting time each year between the application for a test and a test being carried out 3)details regarding the pass rate , in particular a. the number and percentage of candidates who have passed on the first attempt b. the average number of attempts before a pass is achieved 4) the number of driving test testers currently working" Our response to your request is as follows: 1) 2016 to 2017, 3063 tests 2017 to 2018, 3093 tests 2018 to 2019, 2643 tests 2019 to 2020, 2749 tests 2020 to 2021, 1733 tests 2) The below figures show the average waiting time between application and the first available test date that can be provided. This is not necessarily a reflection of tests being carried out due to individual factors, like applicant availability and tutor/ADI availability, causing tests to be rearranged. Cars Motorcycles HGV’s 2018 1.7 weeks 2.2 weeks 2 weeks 2019 2.8 weeks 3.1 weeks 2.1 weeks 2020 6.8 weeks 5.4 weeks 4.9 weeks 2021 (to date) 11 weeks 5.1 weeks 7 weeks lockdown restrictions caused no test dates to be scheduled so have been removed.
3a) 2016 to 2017 - First time tests 1440, 593 passes, 41% pass rate. 2017 to 2018 - First time tests 1437, 607 passes, 42% pass rate. 2018 to 2019 - First time tests 1334, 621 passes, 47% pass rate. 2019 to 2020 - First time tests 1414, 627 passes, 44% pass rate. 2020 to 2021 - First time tests 1046, 514 passes, 49% pass rate. 3b) We do not keep statistics for an average number of attempts before a test pass is achieved. 4) We have four test examiners currently working. Please quote the reference number 1851825 in any future communications.
