I seek information relating to GCSE and other external qualifications entered by those students in Year 11 attending the Island's 5 state secondary schools during the academic year 2019-20.

We write further to your request which was received on 16 November 2020 and which states:

"I seek the following information relating to GCSE and other external qualifications entered by those students in Year 11 attending the Island's 5 state secondary schools during the academic year 2019-20: For each secondary school the number of pupils completing Year 11 in 2019-20; For each secondary school, the percentage of pupils attaining 5 or more Level 2 passes (including English & Maths) together with the IOM average for this metric; For each secondary school, the percentage of pupils in receipt of FSM attaining 5 or more Level 2 passes (including English & Maths) together with the IOM average for this metric; For each secondary school, the percentage of pupils attaining 5 or more Level 2 passes together with the IOM average for this metric; For each secondary school, the percentage of pupils in receipt of FSM attaining 5 Level 2 passes together with the IOM average for this metric; For each secondary school, the number of Year 11 pupils deemed to be in receipt of FSM for the purposes of the above percentage calculations; For each secondary school, the number of Year 11 students attaining each of grades A*-U inclusive for each GCSE subject in which an external grade is recorded together with the similar attainment in other Level 1 and Level 2 external qualifications taken e.g. BTEC, CIDA etc. (broken down by all possible grades that could be attained). By way of assistance, I refer you to the comprehensive response and format of the reply given to an almost identical FOI request in respect of an earlier academic year (FOI Reference 1122925 submitted 6th January 2020)."

Our response to your request is as follows: Number of pupils completing Year 11 in 2019-20 BHS 259 CRHS 124 QEII 111 RGS 136 SNHS 195 Percentage of pupils attaining 5 or more Level 2 passes (including English & Maths) BHS 69.6% CRHS 67.8% QEII 78.4% RGS 66.4% SNHS 66.0% IOM 69.2% Percentage of pupils in receipt of FSM attaining 5 or more Level 2 passes (including English & Maths) BHS 56.0% CRHS 32.0% QEII 37.5% RGS 25.0% SNHS 39.0% While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Department does not hold or cannot, after taking reasonable steps to do so, find some of the information that you have requested. This is because the information was provided by each individual school and the Isle of Man average is not held by the Department. Where the data is not held in the format that has been requested section 8 (3) of the Freedom of Information Act 2015 states; Nothing in this Act requires a public authority to – (a) Create or derive information from information that it holds; (b) Undertake research into, or analysis of, information that it holds. Elizabeth II High School have not been collated for the academic year 2019/20, due to the Department not collecting attainment data, in line with decisions taken in England as a result of COVID-19 school closures.
