Dear ###
We write further to your request which was received on 22 January 2020 and which states (sic):
"Who made the decision to specify the type 1 gravel surface dressing on the heritage trail (old railway line)? What consultation was undertaken with the various user groups as to the suitability of the material? Price per M2 of the material? Our response to your request is as follows:
1. The heritage trail is being surfaced with recycled road planings rather than type 1 gravel as they provide some give for equestrian and pedestrian use but are still smooth enough for cyclists in a consolidated state. This decision was made by the Design Team. 2. No formal consultation has been undertaken in relation to the suitability of the surface course with any of the user groups as the specified material is compliant with a number of guidance documents including the British Horse Societies advice on surfaces for horses and the Department for Transports – Designing for Walking, Cycling and Horse Riding. 3. The material cost per m² is 85 pence. 4. There are no minutes of any meetings where material choice was discussed. Please quote the reference number 1143925 in any future communications.
