Dear ###
We write further to your request which was received on the 20th January 2020 and states:
"Can you please tell me the statistics for each cause of death per year for the last 5 years? Clarification sought: Please specify what areas of the Department of Health & Social Care you are referring to regarding deaths? Is it the total figure over five years or is it to be broken down annually? Clarification received: A break down of the statistics for the causes of death annually please for the years 2014/15 to 2019."
Our response to your request is as follows: Data has been provided to show by each year the underlying cause of death for all deaths registered in the Isle of Man. This is different to date of death as in the case of inquest a death registration may be delayed. This also excludes those Island residents who die off-island and are not repatriated to the Island.
Cause of death coding is based on what has been entered onto the death certificate by the certifying medical practitioner or ruling of the Coroner and is coded using the international standard of diseases and related health problems classification (ICD-10). This is done on an annual basis therefore 2019 information is not yet available. Please see the attached document listing the underlying causes of death from 2014 to 2018.
Please quote the reference number 1140325 in any future communications.
