Dear ###,
We write further to your request which was received on 4 December 2019 and which states:
"Please provide the average cost of a school lunch given to a child in a Manx primary school. Please break down the cost into: the cost of raw ingredients + cost of cooking = total average cost of a lunch."
Our response to your request is as follows: While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the public authority does not hold or cannot, after taking reasonable steps to do so, find some of the information that you have requested. Therefore a practical refusal reason applies under sections 11(2)(b) and 11(3)(a) of the Freedom of Information Act 2015 (the Act) and we are unable to remove the practical refusal reason. This is because the cost of cooking a school meal in a Primary School is currently not held by the Department in the format you have requested. However I have detailed below the information that is held. The average cost of a Primary School meal has been calculated as £2.23 per child per day. This has been calculated using the information held for the three complete months (September to November) from the current academic year, which includes the number of days school meals were served, the number of children who had been served a school meal, the total cost of expenses and the total cost of salaries. The total cost of expenses is the amount spent on food bought into the school and in terms of your request for information would be equivalent to the cost of raw ingredients. For the current academic year this was £0.96 per child per day (included within the above figure).
